On her third release, Morvan shows strong chops on guitar and a good ear for writing accessible songs. The overall result is an easy-to-listen-to blues-rock hybrid, not so different from what better-known artists such as Robert Cray and Bonnie Raitt have been creating for the last few decades. While Morvan credits Stevie Ray Vaughan as a specific influence, her playing is far more reminiscent of former Roomful of Blues guitarist Ronnie Earl. It’s got that Texas twang but with a jazz musician’s restraint and even elegance. She’s far more interested in playing well than in playing fast. As a singer, Morvan sounds a lot like Louisiana swamp blues singer Marcia Ball. She doesn’t show much range here, but has a nice growl and warm tones. And for someone who lives in SoCal and grew up in Illinois, she’s sure got a drawl to her singing. | 15 | 16 |

For reservations in Humphreys Restaurant before the show LOUISIANA BLUES MASTER2019 BMAs Best Contemporary Blues Artist Kenny Neal is truly, The Real Deal when it comes to blues and roots music. He’s a second generation Bluesman and one of the strongest modern proponents of Louisiana Swamp Blues! Kenny, the eldest of 6 brothers and 3 sisters, was born October 14, 1957 to Raful and Shirley Neal. His Dad, a harmonica player ran with and played with Buddy Guy and Slim Harpo. Slim gave Kenny his first harmonica at age 3 and at age 13 Kenny started playing in his Dad’s band. At age 17 Kenny was recruited by no other than Buddy Guy to play bass in his band. He is more than cognizant of Louisiana’s strong history of Blues but he is imaginative enough to take those traditions, combine them with a contemporary sound and steer the genre into the future. Ben Powel Currently Ben Powell makes his way through this world like a one man band of years past, but with a fresh, new, vibrant sound. Ben has created a truley unique sound playing his resonator guitars, stomping on a homemade winebox footboard, playing rack-harmonica, and singing his old style blues and his original tunes about any issues of the day. Ben’s show’s are high energy, uplifting and should not be missed! Ben has recently played such festivals as Telluride Brews & Blues (where he won 1st place in their blues contest), Gator By The Bay, San Diego Blues Fest, SXSW and opened sold out shows for Buddy Guy and Jonny Lang. |
